What is an Accessible Home?
An Accessible Home is something of interest to those in wheelchairs (www.WheelchairFriendlyHomes.com) as well as those who just don't want to walk up and down stairs any longer (www.KneeFriendlyHomes.com).
Unfortunately, very few homes are "ADA Compliant" both inside and out.
Each person who searches for "accessible" homes has a different level of physical challenge. And some of the homes in these searches might not be as accessible as others. (For example, some listing agents might enter "high ranches" (bi-level homes) as ranches; these are more difficult for the physically disabled to negotiate than a straight ranch but accommodations *can* be made.)
These lists are just a starting point. Only you know the accommodations you need. From these searches, we can whittle down the choices or look at less-accessible homes with an eye toward making them *more* accessible--I have the resources and the contacts to help you.
These lists are not filtered by town or school district, just by county. To investigate the homes of interest by zip code, see the Market Insider link and enter the zip code of the home in question.
I can further filter these searches to fit your particular needs. Just call me at 845-893-0173 or email me.
On the particular county pages, I've included lists broken down by the following criteria:
- Ranch or Single-Level Homes
- Homes that have a bedroom on the main floor
- Homes with an elevator
- Homes with a full, finished walk-out basement
- Homes that are specifically ADA-compliant, either interior or access
The lists in each category include single family homes only. For information on condos, co-ops, multi-family homes and rentals, please call me at 845-893-0173 or email me.
