When is an Open House NOT an Open House? When it's a Traveling Home Show!
As explained in a recent real estate article:
“Most Open Houses are just that—an opportunity for a prospective buyer to see the home in person during a weekend afternoon. I wanted to offer the buyer so much more value for their time,” explained Barclay, a 15-year real estate veteran, licensed in both NY and NJ, who specializes in selling homes that other agents or home owners could not sell on their own. At a ‘Dawn Barclay Traveling Home Show,’ along with consulting with Dawn, buyers will have the opportunity to meet professionals involved in all facets of the home buying process. There is no cost for the buyer to attend. While the line-up may change from week to week, depending on availability, buyers will be able to speak directly to a real estate attorneys, mortgage professionals, moving companies, interior decorators, home inspectors, contractors, landscape artists and more—anyone who might be involved in the home buying or renovating process. “Whether or not the buyer buys the particular home they are visiting, the visit still gives them the opportunity to make connections with trusted professionals that they might not have known how or where to meet otherwise,” said Barclay.
These Affiliates may be able to offer advice on site that can help buyers make a purchase decision,” added Barclay. “Say you visit the house, love it but want to add on an addition or redo a bathroom. A contractor on hand might be able to give you an immediate estimate of what that might cost you. A mortgage professional might be able to advise what you can afford, and even start the pre-qualification process on the spot. And an interior decorator might suggest how your furniture could be positioned in the home in question,” she said.
Barclay hopes that in addition to offering refreshments, the on-site Affiliates will offer specials discounts or incentives, available only to visitors at those events who join the vendor’s mailing list. “That’s a win-win for everyone involved,” she noted.
For the home seller, the opportunity to host a ‘Dawn Barclay Traveling Home Show’ means much greater exposure for their home. “If a buyer is searching in that particular neighborhood, why wouldn’t they choose to go first to the Open House that will be heavily promoted to offer more than just a quick walk-through? It’s a great chance for a home seller to maximize their attendance without a hard sell approach.” To host one of these Traveling Home Shows, home sellers must have their homes listed through Dawn M.
